Company History
Simpson Bros was established in 1919 by George and Dick Simpson following their service in World War 1. The brothers bought two ex. Military vehicles and from their base at Stocksfield, began transporting coal and coke in and around the Tyne Valley. The next few decades saw modest growth of the business and the addition of two more members of the family, George's two sons Ralph and George Jr.   Early Days
The old Warehouse
By the time the current Chairman Peter joined the firm, Simpson Bros had grown to a fleet of five vehicles. Peter spent the following ten years driving, maintaining and planning the fleet, with his wife Jean looking after the administration. The 1980’s saw rapid growth for the firm and it was this that meant the relocation of the fleet to Throckley and an entirely larger site.

Simpson Bros was now operating with around fifty vehicles and serving several industry sectors including packaging, dairy and steel. In 2001, Peter took the decision to lead the firm into a Pallet network (PalletFORCE) for the first time. With Simpson Bros' strong reputation in delivering full load consignments, it wasn't long before the pallet network volumes began to grow. This, coupled with a booming artic fleet meant another relocation was on the cards, and Peter decided to build a brand new distribution centre on the Drum Industrial Estate in Chester-le-Street.   Trucks
Lorries of Today
The new site was opened in December 2003 and along with satellite depots at Ackworth, Bardon and Leicester, is where the fleet of over 100 articulated vehicles is operated from. To ensure that Simpson Bros are in the best position to meet changing business requirements, the Board of Directors have been strengthened, and comprise Peter Simpson [Chairman], Graham Simpson [Managing Director] and Mark McCafferty [Finance Director].
